Opening image link in a lightbox?

    Is is possible to insert a lightbox short code in the link field to open the image in a popup lightbox which overlays on the same page?

    While testing this, it appears that the inserted shortcode link does not have any effect and does not open.

    What I am trying to accomplish is a display of the image thumbnail in the widget and once licked on, opens a lightbox with the full sized image overlayed on the same page, without the visitor going to a sperate page for each image.
    Possible?
