Hello! New user here as of this afternoon. Everything looks straightforward, however, I am receiving the following error when setting the “Use Crypt” option to “Yes”:

The result of registering a new user is a 500 / server error message. DEBUG tells me this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function openssl_random_pseudo_bytes() in [DOMAIN SCRUBBED FOR SECURITY]/public_html/wp-content/plugins/front-end-only-users/Functions/Prepare_Data_For_Insertion.php on line 7

I am using X Theme and several plugins. I uninstalled FastSecure Contact Forms thinking it may have interfered with SSL, otherwise I see no plugins that would seem likely to conflict.

The site itself does not have a certificate and does not use https (…dumb question: is that a requirement of using Crypt for password storage?)

    Any thoughts appreciated, thank you!

    Hi Deka,

OpenSSL needs to be enabled on your server for the Crypt functionality to work. Could you please check with your host to see if this is offered and, if so, how you can get it enabled?

    Thank you

Turns out it was the PHP version at fault. Upgrading from 5.2.17 to 5.6 for the site fixed the issue. Thanks for pushing me in the right direction! :o)
