Currently testing The Events Calendar and I like what I’ve seen so far. But we stay away from anything Google or other Big Tech data hoarders are doing. Is it possible to display events on OpenStreetMap instead of Google Maps? Perhaps using the excellent Leaflet technology?

    Hi there,
    ?
Thanks for writing in with your question – we agree that having other options than just Google Maps would be a great future integration.?
    ?
We used to have an extension for adding the Open Street Map, but unfortunately, it is outdated and not working perfectly with TEC version 6.
    ?
It does look like this is a feature that has been requested by other users on our Ideas Page – we take customer input very seriously, so I encourage you to add a vote there!?
    ?
Sorry that I couldn’t be of more help here, but please let me know if you have any further questions.?

Thanks, @gugaalves. I added my vote.

@willemb2 @gugaalves I did so (voting) quite some time ago, but assume there are lots of other features in the queue, so we don’t know if this will ever get considered.

In the meantime it would be really nice to know which templates we could modify to replace google maps . Seems as if this functionality is scattered around in many template files and after all the changes the recent updates brought to the template hierachy , it would be helpful to have some up-to-date information where to work on ….

    thx,

    Uli

Adding to that: yesterday, March 6 2024 the Digital Markets Act (DMA) became effective in Europe and in the course of the year extra steps in the Digital Services Act will be taken. These will make Google’s business model* become a lot less profitable. So embedding Google Maps might become expensive or they might even stop offering it.

So this is another reason to have an alternative.
