Images on Openverse need attribution. If I add an image as Featured image or regular image I cannot attribute it. This is unlawful. Can you fix this.

@schaakwonder Thanks for the heads up.

If you add an image you can open the Edit controls to and an attribution.

Can you point me to the documentation about Openverse attribution requirements?

just check a query like https://openverse.org/search/?q=zwarte%20piet

If you hover over an image you see that attribution is needed on almost all images.

So, you don’t need just an attribution option for images, but also for featured images (since captions are not shown in featured images). I don’t the attribution link in your screenshot though.

I think you should do 2 things:

    1. Create an option to filter on Public Domain images, so no attribution is required.
    2. Give the option to copy the attribution link, so we can add it to the page the image is on. Besides that you should show attribution requirements with every image.

If you have questions, feel free to ask!

The attribution you are talking about is the alt text of the image, which in Instant Images is the title field. This is not image attribution.

In fact, this alt text on the Openverse images is not actually correct at all in terms of accessibility as it does not describe the photo one bit.

Please read about Alt text here – https://moz.com/learn/seo/alt-text

If you want an example of proper alt text, have a look at Unsplash feed.

    2. Give the option to copy the attribution link, so we can add it to the page the image is on. Besides that you should show attribution requirements with every image.

It’s not up to me to decide how users want to attribute a photo. I cannot force anything to be displayed on the frontend of a website. I provide the option to add an attribution as a caption which can be copied and used wherever you like.

Do you see where you can add this attribution when using Instant Images? Just click the cog icon in the bottom right of each photo.

    I appreciate your feedback.

@schaakwonder we use the CAPTION field for our attribution and it displays for featured images… maybe change the theme?
