Operates randomly
-
I installed it on two sites and set it up to receive an email. On one of them, after two days it was not sending the code. When I went to the support forum I saw that this was a recurring problem. And it’s coming from the plugin itself, because the smtp server works perfectly.

Hello @ticurt
Thank you for using our plugin and for the review.
While we appreciate all feedback, I can assure you that the plugin does not operate randomly. While email issues do arise from time to time, so far the plugin was never the problem. I am not claiming that our plugin is perfect, it has bugs like all others, but we never had email issues. To be completely transparent, the only problem we had with emails is that the plugin was sending two emails instead of one, and the first code was being invalidated.
To troubleshoot your problem, please install an email log plugin and try logging in again. You can also run an email delivery test by navigating to WP 2FA > Settings > Email Settings & Templates, and then clicking on the Test email delivery button.
Please send us a screenshot of the email log generated by the plugin. You can reply here or open a new forum thread, or send us an email at [email protected] for assistance.
Many thanks,
RobertHello,
Sorry to disappoint you, I understand your disappointment, I would be too. Nevertheless, on the support forum we can see that this problem is recurrent, there are a number of messages that have the same problem. And my server sends emails very well. And when I installed the plugin, it worked perfectly. I tried it 4 or 5 times and each time I got the code and I was able to log in, I was delighted. The next day I wanted to log in, and I never got the code. I asked for a new code, nothing. I tried in two other browsers (Firefox and Edge), nothing. Done, it didn’t work anymore. So I had to go directly to the FTP to deactivate the plugin to be able to connect and I deleted it.
Believe me, I regret it, because I was very happy to have found this plugin, but there is clearly a reliability problem. If my server had a problem, if the plugin didn’t work, if there weren’t so many posts on the support forum with the same problem indicating that I’m far from being the only one…
Sorry, I thank you for your email, which really touches me, I feel the will to do well. When we do something for others, as you do, we want it to work. I dedicate my life to my actions, fighting windmills, it is painful. But this is just a plugin and I’m not sure I’ll reinstall it. Although I’d really like to give you that pleasure.
Best regards, thx, Thierry
Hello @ticurt
We are not disappointed – we posted such a response because if there is an issue, we want to fix it. Hence why we always ask users like you to help us troubleshoot the problem. If we fix a problem, both the users and us benefit.
I think I know what the issue might be. As explained in this support ticket, the only situation in which the plugin does not send an email with a code is when someone tries to log in, a code is sent, but it is never used. So when someone tries to log in with the same user, an email is not sent because HOTP codes never expires. This is as such by design.
Can this be the case in your setup?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
? So when someone tries to log in with the same user, an email is not sent because HOTP codes never expires. This is as such by design. ?
`It seems to me that if this were the case, I should at least receive a code. But it is clear that one should be able to send a new code if necessary and receive it.
I don’t understand this idea of a HOTP code that never expires. How does the fact that the code doesn’t expire prohibit issuing another one?
One thing is for sure: I’d like it to work, reliably. If we take the risk that it won’t work and therefore we can’t log in, I can’t use the plugin. I don’t want to have to go through FTP, especially for other users.
Thanks for your efforts. ??
Hello @ticurt
Thank you for your feedback. We are looking into the design of this 2FA method and looking into ways of how we can improve it.
By the way, if you do not receive a code when using 2FA over email you can always press the “Resend Code” button available on the 2FA code page – when you click this the plugin always sends a code, so users always have that option and can never get locked out. There are also several different 2FA backup methods, which we’ve added to the plugin in case there are problems with the primary 2FA method.
So the options and services are there, it’s a question of implementing them.
I hope the above helps and you give the plugin another shot, maybe on a test website. If you do and encounter problems, open a forum support thread or contact us via email – we’re always readily available to help. If you try the plugin again and it works well for you, we would appreciate if you update this rating. As aside note; it helps all plugin developers to contact them in case of problems before posting a review. Most issues are very often solvable, and by contacting developers you help them solve issues and improve the plugins.
Thank you for your feedback and cooperation.
Have a great day.
Well, I reinstalled the plugin and it couldn’t send emails anymore. So I checked the box asking to delete all data on uninstallation. I reinstalled it. Now it works, I sent a dozen test emails. I saved the list of backup codes. I wanted to test WP mail SMTP. I installed it, when I saw the complexity of the steps, I fired it, I don’t want to hear about it.
If ever we don’t get the email anymore, I’ll let you know.
Thank you for your dedication.
I am glad to read that the plugin is working for you @ticurt
By the way, this is another email log plugin that is very easy to use, and worth having in my opinion: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/email-log/
Thank you for giving the plugin another shot. Please do not hesitate to ask should you have any problems, and please, do not forget to update this rating once you are happy with the plugin.
Thank you very much and have a great day.
