opml plugins not working on wp 4.9.4

  • Installed wp, and got an automatic update to 4.9.4. Trying to migrate from wordpress.com. Need to import links saved in opml format. Plugins (Blogroll Importer, etc.) are untested with 4.9.4. Tried to use a few and I get a “cheatin’ uh?” message. Is there a manual workaround? or a usable plug in?

    So I’ve now rolled wp back to 4.1.2 and tried Blogroll Importer again. It’s supposed to be compatible with 4.1.2 but I’m still getting the “cheatin’ uh” result. Help?
