    Hi there,

I’ve been trying to find the optimal image sizes for use in this theme, for prepping photos. But I can’t seem to find that info in the documentation anywhere – am I missing it somewhere, or could it be added?

    Many thanks!

  • Hey,

Take a look at this post and let me know if it’s helpful:

Hi Kevin, thanks for that. I’m more looking for the actual optimal width (and height if needed) for various types of images – e.g. page header image widths, and portfolio featured image widths. The high-quality images I have are all well above 1600 originally so I can resize them to any size, and would like to go for the smallest that will work for each place I need to use them, for best site speed. (I’m using ImageOptim to strip metadata and WP Smush too, so it’s the initial sizing I’m curious about.)

For full-width images, if 1600 is the minimum recommended width that’s grand, I’ll can use that.

? How about the portfolio images in “beside” layout? I think I’ll use that layout purely to be able to use smaller images.
? How about header images used when the sidebar’s enabled? I’ve a sidebar only for the blog posts on this site, and there are many posts with images, so I’d like to use smaller than full-page-width if possible.

    Thank-you!

In general you’ll want a minimum of around 1600px width and height. Anything in that area should look great.

Even for areas where the image is going to be relatively small, it’s still good to use the suggested image size so that your images look good on all screens. The reason being that on some screens, the browser will need the image to be rendered at 2x the size due to pixel density.

As long as you compress the images and use the other techniques outlined in that post, then you wont notice any significant speed issues when using large images.

Ah great, that’s simple then! ?? Thanks very much!

    No problem!
