    Hello,
we recently started using an Imgaify Pro plan on our site. All graphics on the site have now been optimized by Imagify. However, we are having the problem that graphics are still being published on the site at the full, old size. For example, this background image (https://varyada.cz/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Hintergrund.png) is displayed in the media library with an optimized size of 181.23 KB. On the live site it still has over 950kB. How can we fix this problem?
    Thanks for your help,
    Martin

    Hi @maaaartin!

This is Joseph from Imagify, and I’ll gladly assist you here!

We responded to your ticket in our private support channel as well, but I will also include the answer here for anyone else experiencing a similar issue.

The issue was that the images were CSS background images, and Imagify’s “Use <picture> tags” option (the default setting for WebP image display) cannot work for those because it works by replacing HTML img tags with picture tags.

If you’re having the same issue, you can switch to the “Use rewrite rules” option in your Imagify plugin settings page as long as you don’t use a CDN, Cloudflare, or certain cache services like Varnish (as these conflict and may cause image display issues, especially in Safari browsers).

    Best regards,
    Joseph
