• I downloaded all my image files from ftp. and now I’ve gone thru and optimized them all (over 5000) but if I put them back up using ftp – will my media area recognize them? if the names are the same? Thanks in advance – I’ve had to go back to a backup of my site twice now…. because it’s not working.

  • WordPress stores a reference in the database for each item in the Media Library.
That reference has the path and filename of each version/size of each image (each image will have 4-5+ versions which have been resized according to WordPress needs).
As long as you replace each image with the same name and place it in the same location, there will be no problem.

Also, might want to check out https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/

This will allow you to optimize all images in the media library without downloading them.

If you’re experiencing problems. Try one image at a time and test so you can be confident it works
