Hello. I’m looking to optimize my website as much as possible without getting too much into the details of code and everything.

I’m using the free version of Smush and Autoptimize. Do you have any recommendations regarding which settings work best without losing too much quality?

I’ve also noticed the image settings inside Autoptimize and I was wondering if I should enable anything (they have a lazy load functionality too).

I’m also not against the use of additional plugins if they can help me improve my website speed.

    Thanks.

  • Hello @xnickwpx

    Trust you’re doing well!

With the Smush plugin for better site performance please enable the following options in Smush settings:
    – Images Sizes, please choose All
    – Enable “Automatically smush my images on upload”
    – Enable “Strip my image metadata”. Please note, if you have a photography based site, this option removes the photos’ metadata. Some photographers may prefer to keep it.
    – Enable “Resize my full size images”. Under this option, please add Max width and Max height, that written bellow the filed. These dimensions are suggested to be used by the active theme on your site. This option will resize the original images to the set dimensions.

    Please see settings screenshot:

Just in case, please have a backup of the images. So if you will not be satisfied with the optimization, you can always restore them back.

From Smush > LazyLoad, please enable this option. This reduces the load on your server and speeds up the page load time. If lazyload for images is enabled on the Autoptimize, please skip this setting, as having the same features from different plugins enabled on the site is not advisable.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards,
    Nastia
