• Hi Woo/WordPress community ??

Would anyone know how to prevent WooCommerce from multiplying the “Download Limit” by Quantity purchased?

This behavior was introduced in WooCommerce 2.3.4 as a Fix: “When purchasing multiple downloadable products (same item), multiply download limit by qty purchased.”

Prior to 2.3.4 (as far as we are aware), WooCommerce did not multiply the Download Limit by Quantity purchased, which was perfect for us.

We’ve introduced the following Idea to Woo’s Uservoice Ideas forum (see here), but we could use a friendly assist if anyone knows how to turn this off until we hear from Woo.

Use Case: We have a few items that are virtual & downloadable. These items are “printable” (music) but the quantity amount gives permission to print more quantities. In this case, we allow the customer to download the file 3 times. If they purchase 15, they can print it for 15 kids, or 15 times, whatever the item/license states. With the new, post-2.3.4 setup of multiplying the Download Limit by the quantity purchased, WooCommerce calculates a Download Limit of 3×15 = 45. We would love for it to still be 3.

Perhaps a good solution (idea) would be to:

    1. Give the website owner a global option in WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Downloadable Products to either calculate the Download Limit by Qty purchased or not.
    2. Give the website owner the same option on a product-by-product basis in the Product Data > General > Download Limit area. Perhaps a checkbox option to “Multiply by Quantity Purchased”

If WooCommerce could re-introduce the ability to not multiply the Download Limit by quantity purchased, but perhaps this time as an option, rather than one way or another, that would be great. Pre-2.3.4, the Download Limit stayed the same; post-2.3.4, the Download Limit is multiplied – a meeting in the middle by way of an option would be great).

Thanks for any help if anyone has any ideas on how to temporarily turn off this behavior (multiplying the download limit by quantity purcahsed)!
