    Hi,

This is a great plugin for embedding PDFs but could you add an option to choose whether to embed or link the pdf to a page?

I need to embed only some of my pdfs and I need to create hyperlinks to open other pdfs. Currently if I want to make a hyperlink to open a pdf in a new tab I need to upload the file to Media library and manually copy the URL and write the link.

So basically I’m asking for a “enable / disable PDF Embedder” checkbox when choosing a file from Media Library through the Add Media button.

If it’s checked -> generates shortcode for embedded pdf
If it’s unchecked -> uses normal WordPress behavior and creates a hyperlink to the pdf file

  • Hi @jussitrival,

There currently isn’t an option in the PDF Embedder plugin to set whether a document is added as the embedded viewer or as a link—I will add your comments to our feature request for future development.

In the meantime, I do have a workaround for you. If you want to add the PDF as a link instead of the embedded viewer, you can make use of the File Block which allows you to add a file as a link within your page/post content. It also gives you the option of including a download button to that document. Please see https://gutenberghub.com/blocks/file-block/
