Options to easily modify Nimble Portfolio presentation

I’m a new user of Nimble Portfolio, trying the free version. I have a business consulting practice and I’d like to use the Nimble Portfolio to showcase my project histories.

I want an image thumbnail [one of a few representing different categories of projects (e.g., marketing strategy, business planning, etc.)] for each project (portfolio item), and when one clicks on the image, I’d like the project description to pop up in the window instead of the thumbnail image itself. Also, I’d like the same to happen when one clicks on the Read more permalink.

Is this possible to do? Also, is there an add-on that would make these modifications easy and user-friendly? I’d prefer not to get too deep into manual re-coding if I can help it.
