• Hi, Two customers in last two days said they did not receive the email from our business that contains a link to the video they purchased. They did receive PayPal confirmation of payment, however.

Please note I searched the other forum entries for this question but only one thread was solved and I don’t think it was relevant to my situation.

Error log says: FAILURE :Order ID does not exist in the IPN notification. This request will not be processed.
    Please advise. Thank you!
    Robin

Here is the full text from the error log for one of those attempted purchases:

Hi, the error log is reporting a failure with the order ID. Do you have a cache plugin running in your site? Or is your sever using a cache system?

Have you also set up PayPal IPN notification in your PayPal account?

    Regards

    Thanks for your reply @mbrsolution

Yes I do have a cache plugin running. What is the issue?

And yes, I have set up PayPal IPN notification.

I also disabled a Firewall feature in a security plugin. After doing so I was able to receive the email after 30 minutes on one order when I tested it, but another test order took several hours to get the email.

    Hi,

If you have a cache plugin installed, make sure you exclude your shopping cart page from getting cached. This can cause issues.

I also disabled a Firewall feature in a security plugin. After doing so I was able to receive the email after 30 minutes on one order when I tested it, but another test order took several hours to get the email.

So that means that your issue was related to your security plugin. Is this correct?

The time delay might be related to the cache issue I mentioned above or your server, computer/laptop and / or your internet connection. You might also want to contact your host and ask them to investigate this issue as well. See if they can share some light. Let me know what they say.

    Thank you

Do the possible issues caused by a cache plugin include the shopping cart automatically clearing when the user hits “Continue Shopping” or the “Back Button”?

Unfortunately this is happening in Safari Version 13.1 (15609.1.20.111.8) and in Chrome on iOS.

    Please advise.

Yes, a cache plugin can cause all sorts of issues in a shopping cart plugin. If you are running a cache plugin, you need to exclude any shopping cart pages from getting cached.

Let me know if the above helps you.

    Thank you

Hi, Yes, turning the cache off for the product page and the checkout page solved the cart clearing issue.

But unfortunately I am still having issues with some customers not getting the email from our site that contains the download link. I just did a test purchase myself and didn’t receive the email, though I did get the PayPal confirmation.

My test order doesn’t appear in the list of orders, nor is there an entry in error log.

    thanks again for your help.

This issue could be related to your server. Also make sure the email settings are correct and enabled in the plugin admin panel.

If the above does not apply to you, I recommend the following plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/easy-wp-smtp/.

Let me know if this helps you.

Can you please be more specific about “related to my server”?
What steps can I take to troubleshoot that?

FYI, I did finally receive the automatic email with the link (from my test purchase) but it arrived 6 hours after the transaction was made. With a big warning across the top (gmail–“this appears not to actually come from this address” or something similar).

Spoke with my web host, they see no errors that indicate there is anything going on at their end on my server.

They did suggest trying a different email address, so I created a new email account and updated the cart settings. Just did a new test purchase, and unfortunately, still no automatic email with a video link.

I hesitate to use the plugin you suggested, as it seems that one must put in the login settings for the email account, which doesn’t seem secure. Also there are a significant number of reviews blaming site hacks on this plugin.

I’m about ready to give up. What else can I do to solve this issue?

My most recent test purchase was listed in the log. It indicates that the email was sent to me (email and IP’s changed for privacy here). However, I have not received it, nor is it in my spam folder.
