Order number for subscriptions

Site currently sells full purchase of product and subscription to pay in instalments each month. Each monthly subscription payment creates a new order number which confuses customers. It is clear that each new full purchase will create a new order number, but is it possible to set the system so that the subscription will run on the same order number?
