Hi, so I was wondering if anybody could help me with an issue that may be related to the theme I use, but I’m not sure.

The issue is the changing of set order of product categories. When you go to the homepage of my ecom and hover over “Tooted” (Products) the set order is correct. However, when you click on this and go to the overall product archive page (so all products are shown), the set order on the left side menu is wrong (currently a newly added category is at the very top, wrong spot). Why does it behave like that?

My theme author said to either use CSS or a custom plugin. The issue is that adding CSS every time I create new categories is annoying and it shouldn’t be needed at all. That’s not how ecom themes should work. Plugins again cause issues. So I’m not sure what to do.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hey there, @heggyy! Thanks for contacting us. I’m happy to help you.

When you go to the homepage of my ecom and hover over “Tooted” (Products) the set order is correct.?

The order used for any items (category or others) on the menu can be customized on menu settings (which can vary depending on your theme), but they do not necessarily need to match the category order set up on the back end, as they are not connected.

However,?when you click on this?and go to the overall product archive page (so all products are shown), the set order on the left side menu is wrong (currently a newly added category is at the very top, wrong spot).?

If you are using the WooCommerce default Product Category List widget, you can customize the order by going to Products > Categories.

Once you are there, use the three line icon on each category to drag them to the order you want.

Here’s a video of me doing it on my site:

I hope this was clarifying. Please let us know how it goes.

    Have a wonderful day!

I understand how to reorder categories. The issue is that the order is different on the website itself in 2 different places.

The correct order appears when I hover over a menu on the homepage of my eshop.
    Hover over “Tooted”

However, when I go to click on the menu where all products are shown, then on the left the order is incorrect.
Here on the left – you can see 1 category ABOVE the red one. That is the newest and shouldn’t be there. It will always happen when adding new categories.

The order of product categories need to be the exact same, but they are not. On the backend they’re correct.

    Hey, @heggyy!

    Thanks for the clarification ??

As I mentioned, the order on the menu and the order on the widget are not related. You can set them up to be the same, but they won’t automatically be the same, as the order on the menu is not attached to the order on the categories page, while the order on the sidebar widget is.

So, if the order on the menu is correct, that’s great. Let’s work to make sure the order on the side bar is too.

    On the backend they’re correct.

To confirm and make sure we are not missing any information, if you go to Products > Categories, the order there is correct, right?

If they are, can you please temporarily switch to the Storefront theme and check if the issue persists?

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

    Hi,

I activated the Storefront theme. The order of categories was as intended everywhere where there was the list of categories visible (top menu as well as on the right side as a sidemenu).

    Hi, @heggyy!

?The order of categories was as intended everywhere where there was the list of categories visible (top menu as well as on the right side as a sidemenu).

    Thanks for confirming.

This means that something on your theme is affecting the category list on the side bar.

Please reach out to the support of the theme you are using so they can take a look at it and help you figure out what’s going on. ??

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!
