Order status based on the payment method

Hi,
I feel woo’s handling of order statuses is extremely poor and narrowed. VS. Opencart/Magento etc..
1. I can’t select which order status the PayPal IPN should set on successfully payments, it just sets Processing.
2. I can’t select which order status each payment option should assign to orders as their starting order status.
Here is a pretty global scenario.
A shop offers payment by credit card or invoice (bank transfers).
Now, if a order is paid with credit card, then the Processing status would probably work okay. But it would really be nice to have a option to select another order status, since there are many different workflows out there.
If a order is made selecting invoice as payment method, it would be nice and handy to be able to set the status of such orders to something like “Customer awaiting invoice”. The on-hold status could be used for som many other reasons and is so distinct, making the workflow so not organized.
Is there a plugin out there that would let me solve these issues?

That is correct,
