    I’ve been using the code
    [catlist name=a-upcoming orderby=content order=asc numberposts=10 title_tag=h6 excerpt=yes]

    Unless I am doing something really stupid (which could be )

    I put my titles in the post….
    I then put in the “content area” of each post something like this..
    2015-11-05 This old guy… blah blah blah
    2014-09-23 A Nice Wagon…. blah blah blah
    2014-10-01 Robin Hood… blah blah blah

    And I “thought” it would sort out each post by the “content” like this…
    2014-09-23 A Nice Wagon…. blah blah blah
    2014-10-01 Robin Hood… blah blah blah
    2015-11-05 This old guy… blah blah blah

    Am I wrong !! (thanks whoever answers this…)

  • I’m not sure “orderby” actually works… whichever argument I use, it’s always ordered by date… I’m actually waiting for an answer for your problem, maybe it’ll answer mine.

    Have you tried any other arg ? Does it work ?

    I think it does but not for “content” . I’ve been doing so much learning and testing stuff I forget, to your question, I think I remember testing random, and it worked.
    If you research wordpress, and orderby, (I forget, once again) the link I had for information about orderby in the “core” variables… but “content” is not listed. Don’t know if this changed in the wordpress builds over the years because I am new to WP.
    I started using Shortcodes Ultimate https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/shortcodes-ultimate/ which has a shortcode easy to implement “Posts” and simple hacks to get the presentation you want.
    Since I can’t use orderby=content with this plugin… or the one I just mentioned.. the only preference is the one you like better. And thusly for now I’ll have to leave this one. The author has done great work and I appreciate all his efforts.
