    Hello,

The website I am working on is a multi-site, setup for a variety of different sites, such as clubs, programs, organizations, departments (educational), professors, research and other such items.

Each of these sites that would be nestled underneath the sub-directory of the above listed items, and would have to have it’s own site and front page to be customizable.

Essentially, they want the structure to be like this:

    Sites (main admin site)
       - Club (sub directory)
       -- Club Name (site)
       - Research (sub directory)
       -- Project (site)
       - Department (sub directory)
       -- Department Name (site)

Is it possible to have a website with these different ‘categories(?)’ or ‘taxonomies (?) set up in the url such as this?
    sites.domain.com/club/clubname ?

Where/how would I begin creating such a thing? Does this involve creating a separete taxonomy and the filing those individual sites underneath it?

I’m not sure how to ask this, but I hope that this is worded correctly, or understandable. I’m in a little over my head with this.

    Thank you for your time.

  • you might be better off looking at multisite for this project.
here is more info on multisite for you
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network

CPT’s and Taxonomies arent needed if Multi-site is set up correctly you will get the url structure you want.

    Hello,

It is already a multisite. I’m looking to further expand on this or give my system administrator more information in regards to creating this scenario.

    I’m currently reading that page.

Yes, sorry… I had missed that before posting. Hopefully the info in the article can still be of use because I do not believe CPTs and Custom Taxonomies need to be used. Unless I am not understanding what you are trying to do.

The best way to explain it was to have a multi-site underneath a multi-site, but I was informed that was not possible with WordPress.

Ah ha, okay so then yes you would need to use custom taxonomies and CPTs… or possibly a custom plugin of some sort.

Glad you were able to find an answer even though it was not exactly the answer you were looking/hoping for.
