organizing content on homepage

This site here that I am redesigning is going to be using Word Press. The content on the homepage is always being changed for upcoming events. There are several ‘listings’ on the homepage. Does anyone have any ideas/ suggestions as to how this can be organized? Can there be several text areas that can be edited instead of just one?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions.
