• Hello,

I too am experiencing the original files remaining after being renamed. Could one of these plugins be causing a problem? Also is there a log of files that have been renamed?

    Hi @nolasteve,
have you tried to deactivate Phoenix Media Rename to see if it is the origin of the issue? I don’t think this could be the case, because Phoenix Media Rename works on files only when you require it using the “rename” command, but there could be some issue I’ve never found.

The most probable source of this kind of problem could be “TinyPNG – JPEG, PNG & WebP image compression”m but I don’t know “ProPhoto 6 Installer” and it isn’t present in WordPress repository, what is it for?

    Hope this helps ??

    Hi @crossi72 ,

    Thank you for your advice.

I don’t think I need “ProPhoto 6 Installer” and will deactivate it. I’ll also try deactivating “TinyPNG – JPEG, PNG & WebP image compression” when I am using Phoenix Media Rename.

I do not rename in bulk and only use Phoenix Media Rename on individual files. Deactivating it would remove the rename function for me. I suppose I could deactivate and reactivate to test.

Is there a log of renamed files. That would help me find the unused duplicates.

Thanks again for your help. It is much appreciated.

I just noticed I have Debug mode enabled. Should that be the default setting and would having it enabled possibly be leaving the original files?

Upon closer inspection, it looks like the original file and certain thumbnails are renamed correctly and removed but several other existing thumbnails are not renamed and remain as the original filename.

    Any thoughts on that observation?

    Hi @nolasteve,
debug mode doesn’t change the features, it only display more detailed messages in case of errors, so it is unlikely a source of issue.

If the files are not renamed, the thumbnails are not deleted, if only some of the thumbnails are deleted I think there is an issue with the part of Phoenix Media Rename that retrieve the list of thumbnails related to an image.

I’ll check this case in a few days, now I’m working to fix an issue with Elementor custom templates.

Thank you for helping me addressing the issue!

    Hi,

Is there any update on this problem?

I’m a big fan of the ‘rename and retitle from post’ function that you kindly implemented with the last update.

I just realised the same thing.
All the original thumbnails stayed on the server.

    Hi @tfrank77,
I’m still working on this, but I can’t replicate the issue, so it is difficult to fix it.

Thanks go to you, for the help you are giving me to address this issue ??

Hi, excellent plugin! I left a review in appreciation.

I tested it on many servers and clean installations, and it makes a duplicate of the WordPress media sizes that are not the full size.

Hope it can be fixed, thanks!

    Hi @carlosvai,
some user reported similar issues, but I’ve never been able to replicate the issue on my development server.

It doesn’t seem related to compatibility issues with other plugins, maybe is something related to hosting configuration or server version.

Let me know if you have more detail, so that I can replicate the issue and address it.

    Thank you for reporting!

I have the same issue. I have just this plugin installed. 1 theme and no other add-ons.

I’m testing the rename – it works. BUT it does not delete the original file.

    Hi all,
I released version 3.11 that fixes an issue related to file deletion, can you tell me if your issue persists?

    Thank you
    C.

    I did the test.

Ok, it deletes the main original image. But it does not delete the resized images.

So when you rename, you have a newly rename image (creates an image with the selected image name & various sizes per wordpress – good), it deletes the 1 main original image and leaves the original resized images in the upload folder (uploads/year/month/) — The original resized images are not visible in the media section of wordpress, but when you browse the folder (uploads/year/month/) within wordpress you can view the images.

I used the 2 methods per renaming the file. The option in the media library and also the “edit the image” method. Same results.

I tested using the method of renaming the image per the post.

I could not get this to work. But, yes the “main original image” deletes, but leaves the resized images in the wordpress folder not seen in the media library.
