    Hi,

I want the original image to be deleted and only keep the optimized versions.
So I have checked “Original image (overwritten by compressed image)”
I also have “Resize the original image” checked (same dimensions as my “large”).
From what I can tell this only works sometimes but most of the time the original version is kept uncompressed and there is a new version created called “…-scaled-jpg”
I have tried both “Compress new images during upload” and “Compress new images in the background (Recommended)” and I tried this with WordPress default Media library. What could be causing this?
    Thanks!

    Hi,

    Thanks for writing!

Wordpress added a feature in 5.3 that automatically creates a “-scaled” version of your images when they have a width or height larger than 2560 pixels. For such images WordPress will serve the scaled version instead when it needs to show the original, it will not use the actual original image. This scaled version should also be compressed by the plugin if you enable the original to be compressed.

Since you want your original to be the size of your large image size it might make sense to disable the scaled image creation by WordPress, and have the resizing being done by the plugin. See for example https://darkog.com/blog/how-to-disable-wordpress-5-3-image-downscaling-feature on how to disable the creation of a -scaled version.

    I hope that explains!
