I’ve got a site that’s over 5 years old and I need to move it to a new domain/server and I’ve tried other migration or move plugins but none seemed to work for me so I’m going to try this one.

    My questions are:

Can it handle a really big site? I think I’ve got 30,000 pictures including thumbnails and over a thousand multi-page reviews and thousands of other blog posts.

Does the plugin do anything to the original site? I want the original site to remain intact for now until I get everything up and fully running on the new site.

    Thanks

  • Hey Krisofer,

When you say old, what version of WP are you using? It will only work with larger sites if you create a folder filter on your images directory and then manually move those files over after performing the re-install…

Old as in the old or original site, not old wordpress install… it’s the latest version of wordpress on both sites that I want to migrate from to the new site/domain/hosting

I have the site setup, it’s new name and all that, I just want to move the content and pictures over to the new site with different name and theme

I’m not understanding a ‘folder filter on images directory’

I can manually do it via ftp I would think, but moving them manually how would it or I know where to put them or where the images are?

In the plugin you can specify a path such as:

    /mypath/wp-content/uploads/

When the plugin goes to build the zip file it will exclude the files and folders in that path. After you run the installer at the new location you can just manually move the files in the folder you excluded.

    Hope that helps!

ok.. but now I have another problem.. varnish cache doesn’t let the plugin work apparently and I can’t shut it off because I don’t have access to it.

    Any workaround you know of?

How is varnish preventing it from running? Do you have an error/warning message I can work off of? Not really sure how to help…

    Yeah I get error 503:

    Error 503 Service Unavailable
    Service Unavailable
    Guru Meditation:
    XID: 1821692843
    Varnish cache server

But never mind, I gave up and did it manually. I downloaded the database and searched and replaced everything and then imported it into my new site and it worked.

OK, thanks for the update… I wonder if varnish was temporarily turned off it would work…
