On my Checkout page, PayPal was selected under “Choose payment method” and the other payment options that normally display by it were hidden. If I scrolled down to the bottom of the page, under the “Place order” button, it had small text about PayPal being selected as the payment method and that I could click to cancel it.

I have been unable to reproduce this, but I would like to know under what conditions this happens and how to prevent it from happening again, if it is not some strange glitch. It was pretty jarring to have happen, and -to be clear- neither my customers nor I (nor anyone else using this plugin) wants other payment methods to ever be hidden to the customer, and if this behavior is happening because of your plugin, please stop it.

    Hello @hastibe

Thank you for reaching out to us, we are here to help.

It is hard to understand what situation you are encountering; would it be able to share a URL of your site with us, so we can at least take a look?

I would expect that you are talking about the Alternative Payment Methods that can show up, depending on the customer that is purchasing on the site. Whether an Alternative Payment Method is shown depends on the location of the customer. The customer details (IP) are sent to the PayPal server, that in its turn will analyze this to decide what Alternative Payment Methods should be shown under the PayPal payment method. The only influence our plugin has on this, is to block certain (or all) Alternative Payment Methods by adding them in the “Disable Alternative Payment Methods” field under the plugin setting tab “Standard Payments”.

So this location is the only option to avoid other payment methods from showing. If there are no payment methods shown in that field, there is not much more you can do from the plugin’s perspective. You could still check with PayPal Merchant Technical Support if there is any reason for payment methods to not show (account related), but this is out of our scope.

Let me know if this is the answer you were looking for, or rephrase your question.

    Kind regards,
    Joost

    Hello @hastibe

A colleague of mine suggested that you might be talking about the “continuation state”. Other payment gateways are hidden when the buyer confirmed a PayPal payment already and is only awaiting final confirmation:?https://woo.com/document/woocommerce-paypal-payments/#paypal-on-non-checkout-pages

The only way you can avoid this situation, is by disabling all the non-Checkout buttons. You can do this on the settings page tab “Standard Payments”; here you need to only leave the option “Checkout” option in the fields for “PayPal Smart Buttons”.

Hopefully this answers your question. Please let me know if we got it right this time.

    Kind regards,
    Joost

Thank you so much for the detailed response, @joostvandevijver, and I think this must have been it, that it was a continuation state that I just hadn’t seen before and didn’t realize I was in, upon resuming testing on a staging site. This isn’t a problem (and I’m relieved to know that other payment methods aren’t being hidden to customers at other times) — thanks so much for the quick follow-up on this!
