• I *think* I’m using 3.0.2. (I know I’m using 3-point-something and it’s not the very newest one.) However, the nature of my problem is keeping me from verifying exactly.

I have been unable, the last several times, to upgrade automatically, because I get a “fatal error: out of memory” error. Although a nuisance, this is ultimately not a big deal; I just update manually. None of the fixes suggested here have worked. And I have other WordPress installations on the same host account which work fine, so it’s not a server issue.

But today, I can’t log onto anything admin! Whether I attempt to go to the wp-admin/ directory, type my way directly into my list of posts, or click through the “edit” link on a previously-posted article, I keep getting an error like this: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 23068672) (tried to allocate 19456 bytes) in /home/homework/public_html/wp-admin/includes/theme.php on line 83

This is a REALLY big problem, because I literally cannot do ANYTHING with my blog (except view it, as a reader would). What the heck is going on?

Well, I still don’t know what’s wrong, but at least I’m not locked out (and know how to – at least temporarily – address that if it happens again). That is a tremendous help! (I was a bit panicky over the fact that I couldn’t get in and was completely at a loss!)

Okay, apparently it didn’t reactivate ALL of my plugins as I copied them back in. This is really acting oddly.

See if activating them makes the issue come back.

I’ve reactivated most of what I believe I had active before. I haven’t had the same issue yet, but when I reactivated one, I did get a similar error message in the “WordPress Development Blog” section of the dashboard.

It really sounds like your near the limits of what your host allows as far as memory goes and will continue to see these kind of issues.

And it seems that maybe it’s related to the number of plugins, rather than the plugin itself, because I couldn’t remember which of two I’d activated last, so I swapped them out. Neither gives me the error by itself, but when I activate both, I get the error again. (Still not the major login issue, but the “out of memory” message in the WordPress Blog section.

I think I have to go to bed and try to deal with this again tomorrow, or hubby is going to have my head.

Thank you SO much for helping me figure out how to get back into admin!
