    Hello,

    I was trying to send a test email today and I got this error.

    CLIENT -> SERVER: EHLO test.uk
    CLIENT -> SERVER: STARTTLS
    CLIENT -> SERVER: EHLO test.uk
    CLIENT -> SERVER: AUTH LOGIN
    CLIENT -> SERVER: [credentials hidden]CLIENT -> SERVER: [credentials hidden]SMTP ERROR: Password command failed: 535 5.7.139 Authentication unsuccessful, user password has expired. [MR2P264CA0028.FRAP264.PROD.OUTLOOK.COM]
    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.CLIENT -> SERVER: QUIT
    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.

    It looks like a problem with the password, but I have doubled checked and inserted the correct password.

    Let me know if there is anything I can do.

    Best Regards

  • Hi, If the password has expired, our plugin will not work. Who is your host? Have you spoken to them about this issue?

    Kind regards.

    The emails are coming from Microsoft Outlook. I really don’t know who is the password that the message says it’s expired.

    Hi, what happens if you create a new password? Sometimes this can help. Someone in the forum reported that creating a new password in their email server, fixed their issue. This can also apply to Microsoft Outlook.

    Kind regards.

    I will look into it and I will inform you. I will also check if the SMTP authentication is enabled on the Microsoft account. Just to be sure something is not interfering with the plugin and the site.

    After some investigation on the Microsoft admin account of the client, I found that there was a password expiration setting, that was there from the old IT support. So after I disabled the setting, the SMTP authentication passed as expected.

    If anyone else comes across the same problem I would recommend first checking if the SMTP is enabled on the Microsoft 365 account/User,(ref. to Microsoft documentation), and then check under the password expiration setting inside the Security & Privacy tab (Ref. to Microsoft documentation) if there is any password expiration time set.

    This thread is resolved.

    Best Regards
