• Hi there,

We are on the latest version of your plugin (v1.4.2), and have read and followed all the advice you provided in this post and this one. We have set the advanced caching to 1 week, and yet every time we have tried to use the widget, we get the OVER QUERY LIMIT error within a couple of days.

In our Google API Dev Console, I noticed that it shows that the Google Places API Web Service is getting over 1k queries most days. Your plugin is the only one we have using the API key for this service.

Any ideas? Is over 1k normal?

    Thank you for your help,
    Alana

    HI Alana,

Thanks for that info. The caching should limit it so that you only get ONE hit a week. Can you provide me a link to your website to see the widget live?

Also, can you list all the potential places you are using the widget? Perhaps you are using it in some sidebars where the caching isn’t set correctly. The other possibility is that someone else got ahold of your API key and it using it themselves. Perhaps try creating a new key and see if that resolves it.

Let me know on those items. Thanks!

    Hello Matt,

    Thank you for your response!

Yes, the widget is indeed in the primary sidebar of our theme. That is the only place we have it. Here it is on our site: https://www.vgc.ca/. I just re-applied the widget for you, so at the time of my writing this there is no error.

As for the API key, yes, we have already changed it once as part of troubleshooting, about 3 weeks ago. Also, the number of queries is still consistently dropping to 0 when we uninstall the widget.

    Thoughts?

I’ll dig into this with our development team. We had a version which had a bug with the caching, but that was resolved, so I hope that was applied here as well as the Pro version.

I’ll get back to you soon. Thanks!

Looks like we implemented this API caching fix in the PRO version, but not yet in the FREE. I’m digging into porting that fix over now and hope to release that live today. I’ll keep you posted.

    Thanks!

    Hello Matt!

Sorry I’ve been a little awol on this thread. Did you ever release the fix on the free version?

    Thanks for your help!

I believe so. Please update to version 1.4.3 and clear your cache in the widget, then set it to one week, then monitor in the Google Cloud Console whether your API hits are rising still or not.

    Thanks!
