Overall good experience, slim and focusing on the basic functionality

First most important for all readers: If you encounter a 404 Error when trying this plugin on your site, check the support forum and read there for the solution (Quick summary: Go to your permalink settings and just hit the Save Button – don’t do any changes.)

This mentioned 404 Error above which occurs when start using this plugin is also one of my reasons, why I give only 4 stars.
I suggest, if the bug cannot be fixed easily, that at least a big warning message should be displayed in the settings or at some place where it can be recognized easily.

The second reason is, that the shortcode feature is nearly useless for my opinion b/c it cannot be embedded smoothly – at least as I tried it – because it adds line breaks, etc.
But this is not a big deal because instead of the shortcode you can always and everywhere just use the permalink of the download. With that you can build custom hyperlinks, buttons, etc. like you want.

At last I have to say, that the counter seems to count also automatic downloads by – I guess – search engines?? So, maybe there can be added some filtering in the future.

But overall this plugin is offering the basic task which I was searching for: Have download links with an internal counter. Plugin is slim and not bloated at all. Well done! Thank you for providing it.
