Overlaying an image over a WP Supersized slideshow

After lots of playing around I managed it by adding a #container div straight after the body tag and then giving it the following css

    position: absolute;
    left: 0px;
    top: 0px;
    right: 0px;
    bottom: 0px;
    background: url('https://vinylsoundfiles.co.uk/autonomy/wp-content/themes/garnish/images/header-pattern-light.png') repeat scroll 0% 0% transparent;
    height: 100% !important;
overflow: auto;
}
