• I just wasted a lot of time installing this theme and trying to customise it. Every time I got stuck, I ended up on the PageLines Forums register page telling me to buy the premium version in order to be able to read a forum post.

In my opinion you’re better off either going for a premium theme or sticking with a free theme with a friendly author who doesn’t try and fleece you for $100 just to find out how to customise the <h1> tags in a css file.

  • overall i like the free version, but:

    1) theme screenshot is measleading as it shows paid version
    2) there is no demo for free version (which is also misleading)

free version is for basic stuff only and even some basic stuff is not customizable.

Everything should be super easy to customize in the free version.

E.g. How about adding: h1{ color: #000;}or whatever rule to custom CSS?

The only reason we charge is so we can continue developing for you guys. Both free and paid customers love what the software is doing for them.

Did you prefer we work for you for free?

Complaining about something that is completely free is just a bit too cynical. Platform actually seems like a genuine attempt at creating something that allows people to customize easily. Also, I just installed Buddypress and used the guide at Pagelines’ site. They even have a video explaining how to do it if you’re too lazy to read.

Calm down and have a cookie, Earthoria:)

It’s not cynical to complain about free things, but it can be in bad taste. Although developers should be compensated for their work, users spend their equally valuable time and energy to research, download, install, and use the themes. But I digress.

From what I’ve read in this thread, the demo needs a disclaimer a la car commercials: The model shown here is priced at $$, not the version available at the price of $0.

I am interested in this theme. Is there a comparison of the free v. pro versions? I didn’t see one the site.
