Overrated, undersupported
-
The basic plugin available here is functional, and free is free, but there are many others that do more, better.
One pointer for both free and paid-for ‘pro’ customers: Do you want to have to find, edit and add code snippets to your site just to be able to stop visitors to your site uploading 30MB images? You’ll need to if you use this plugin. Otherwise, there is no control over upload sizes/dimensions.
If you ask for help in dealing with this, expect to be sent a link to a code example which if used will restrict ALL file uploads to your site to the size you choose for your images. If you ask if this irrelevant and unhelpful example can be adapted to set field-by-field limits, expect to receive a message along the lines of “When we refer you to examples, be sure to check out other examples on the page. Each of them are written to apply in a different way.” In other words, accept that when you are referred to an example, it isn’t necessarily going to be the answer to your question, just on the same page.
I chose to go for the 15-user pro version after realising that plugins for things like payments, membership, custom post submission (etc) were only available if you also buy the pro version.
Sadly, this plugin has difficulties submitting posts created with ACF, which is a shame. If you ask about incompatibility you’ll be pointed to a little code snippet library and told to adapt whatever you find there. Or pay someone to do it for you.
If you use the payment plugin, which is paypal standard only, hope that paypal doesn’t give clients the ‘data being sent to an unsecure network’ message despite you adding the additional code ‘fix’ for the problem. You’ll be told that ‘I don’t see it’ and that it must be your browser. Hope your clients don’t use the same browser as you.
If you think that searching existing support requests for solutions to a problem will bring up requests from people who have had similar problems with bugs or things they can’t get around, don’t be surprised to not find many. My report of an error message with the payment addon was immediately made ‘private’ as was my last post asking about limiting image upload sizes. Apparently, such things are not helpful for users. Posts saying how wonderful the plugin is are, on the other hand, considered helpful.
If you think ‘priority’ service means ‘quick’ ‘prompt’ or ‘we will treat your question as important’, think again. In the opinion of this paying customer, suppport is slow and unhelpful.
Note: After spending 2 weeks trying to get this plugin to do a job, I discovered that Caldera forms would do the job without me needing to get under the bonnet. I don’t know what their support is like; I didn’t need it.
