    Hello,

I currently have my forum set to “Private” to avoid any further spam accounts being created (at a rate of one a minute). These spam accounts are creating hundreds and hundreds of spam topics, despite my forum only have a very small amount of real users!

I have downloaded an anti-spam plugin (WP Spam Shield) and have set my site to enable user registration via email confirmation. However, the spam accounts are still being made.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Please install Fast Secure reCAPTCHA plugin, configure the Google API key and enable it for WP User Registration and for wpForo User Registration. That’s it.

BTW, this issue is a general issue, this is not wpForo issue, wpForo use the default WP user registration form with a little changed design. 90% of WP website are under spam user registration attacks, and website admins must find a good solution or plugin to protect their websites.

Thank you for your help and clear instructions. So far it seems to have stopped the spam accounts. However, along with the recaptcha, new members are now asked to provide “First name”, “Last name” and “Display” name, alongside the originally requested data. Is there a way to disable this additional information being requested?

reCAPTCHA never ask for “First name”, “Last name” and “Display”. What have you installed? Please deactivate all other plugins, this is not what I was talking about. The plugin i mentioned only ask to click on reCAPTCHA checkbox. This is something else and comes from other plugins, just find it and remove from plugin list.

I did not install anything else other than the reCAPTCHA. The details which it is asking for seem to match those which WordPress (not wp-Foro) requests for users. How do I disable this so that only wp-Foro is requesting login details, and not both wp-Foro and WordPress?

After fiddling with the settings again, the problem seems to have resolved. I am not sure what happened! I will let you know if it returns.

Thank you for all your help.
