Are you familiar with the OwnCloud self-hosted file sync and share service? https://owncloud.org/
There is only one non-repo plugin available for it with limited functionality https://apps.owncloud.com/content/show.php?action=content&content=154756
Might this be something that you could integrate into BuddyDrive? Accessibility via BP/BuddyDrive to a user’s account on owncloud (though I’m not sure how it handles multiple users, or even if it does). If this is something that is possible, it could offer automated sync between a user’s computer and their online BuddyPress. There might be some unique possibilities there for WordPress and BuddyPress.
