Oxygen Theme Front Page – adding text

I am trying to have add some static text to my new website’s front page using the oxygen theme. Specifically, a paragraph underneath the featured slider but before the recent articles section. It’s possible to add text to the page, but this is not displayed when set to the Front Page template (required to run the featured slider.) I’m hoping there is a simple css solution to this.

I have created a child theme, and successfully built a local installation and uploaded that to my host.
