• Hi,

We have been having the same problem as a previous post over the past week or so. We have upgraded to WP 5.0.1, and now, all pages have the exact problem described by @gubu2 in his support request (https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/content-replaced-by-strange-characters-in-posts/).

All pages are replaced by strange and bizarre characters and figures, which essentially make the pages completely unusable ?? – the entire site suffers from this, and not any specific category page, archive page or post type.

We have, unfortunately, had to disable the caching plugin completely, as the site is essentially not viewable in this situation. It has been such a great caching tool for us, and it is a shame not to have it working, as we suffer a significant page load time/performance hit having it disabled.

I am wondering – has there been any further development on this issue, and is anyone able to provide some further guidance as to what might be a solution?
Again – this happens on all pages, not any specific category or custom post type.

An example, provided by @gubu2 of the problem, looks exactly like this:

  • Did this issue start occurring immediately after updating to WP 5.0.1? Also have you ensured that your php.ini file uses utf-8? This can also be defined in .htaccess as AddDefaultCharset utf-8

    Hi @codyarsenault,

Thank you for the detail, and the suggestion.

Indeed we have set things to UTF-8, though the problem persists.

What is curious, is that the same problem has arisen on several sites that we are using the Cache Enabler plugin. They are using different themes, and a fairly basic set of plugins. I am curious if you, or anyone else has experienced and/or can reproduce this issue, and whether you have a recommended solution?

    Thanks in Advance

I’ve tested CE on one of our staging sites which uses WP 5.0.2 and haven’t been able to reproduce the issue yet. Can you tell me which web server you’re using along with the version and which PHP version you’re using?
