• Hi all,

I recent took on a client who is using WordPress to run his website. The version is 4.4.1 and his theme is World Wide. I am not the person who set this up; I am just helping maintain the website and create online content as a freelancer.

He has no experience with updates or plugins on the website. He came across an issue and he would like me to help fix it, however, I haven’t been able to find a good solution.

On the homepage (front end of the website), under the categories “Commentary, Breaking News, Economy and Human Interest,” there are page buttons and buttons that say “Next” and “Last.” However, these buttons stopped working sometime after the website was updated to WordPress version 4.4.1. The pages don’t rotate as they should and my client is getting frustrated because some of the older stories aren’t getting seen.

I thought it might be a plugin issue, but I can’t seem to access any plugins from the website’s dashboard.

The website is https://fairfaxfreecitizen.com/. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Check to see if the theme has updates. Some things – plugins and themes – break on WordPress updates, and theme shops push out fixes to their themes. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but it’s worth a shot… ??

I must be going crazy but I actually don’t have the option to view the theme or any type of updates that go with plugins. Could it be the type of permissions the client has given my account?

Looking at the left sidebar, the only options I have are “Dashboard, GoDaddy, Posts, Portfolio, Testimonial, Price Table, Gallery, Media, Personnel, Pages, Comments, Profile and Tools.”

Some of these options seem unnecessary — my client is an online publication so I don’t think the items like “Testimonial” or “Price Table” should be on the sidebar. I wanted to look at the plugins to see if it was causing an issue but I can’t seem to find them anywhere.

Yes, it sounds like you don’t have permissions. Ask your client to give you full admin privileges.

In the event this is the login their previous developer gave them, it is possible only that previous dev has the full admin account access. In that case try to contact the original dev for it.
