For the last few months Site Health has been giving a “critical error” on some of the sites I manage. The error goes away when I disable Wordfence. I do also have a caching plugin (siteground), which I would like to keep active. Does anyone know if there’s something in settings I can change to fix this and keep Wordfence enabled?
Here is what the critical error says:

Page cache is detected but the server response time is still slow Performance

Page cache enhances the speed and performance of your site by saving and serving static pages instead of calling for a page every time a user visits.

Page cache is detected by looking for an active page cache plugin as well as making three requests to the homepage and looking for one or more of the following HTTP client caching response headers:cache-control, expires, age, last-modified, etag, x-cache-enabled, x-cache-disabled, x-srcache-store-status, x-srcache-fetch-status.

    • Median server response time was 666 milliseconds. It should be less than the recommended 600 milliseconds threshold.
    • There was 1 client caching response header detected: x-cache-enabled.

The url above is just one of the sites displaying this error. I can list others if it’s helpful.

Critical error is a cryptic message. Enable WordPress debug to a log and see the real error:

    Hi @myalkut,

We don’t know up-front how much RAM, CPU and other resources Wordfence might use on a site as it’s down to size of site, quantity of plugins etc. so seeing a performance drop can be related to certain factors. Some are settings related and some might be related to whether the site is on shared hosting but it’s difficult to say without more information.

We can certainly take a look for some common settings that might be an issue by sending us a diagnostic through the Wordfence > Tools menu. You can send that to us at wftest @ wordfence . com. Click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Thanks,
    Peter.
