• Task:
We’re creating a brand new page.
We’ve attempted to us 4710 as the trailing slug (websitename.com/4710

    Issue:
We have no previous media, post, page, or CPT or anything with the name/url of /4710

When changing the slug to 4710, the immediate result in the slug area is /4710-2

Can anyone point to a reason for this?

Thanks in advance for any reply,

    Michael

  • Hi @cajebo! Do you have a page/post/cpt with the URL of 4710 in your trash? If so, permanently deleting it will “free up” that URL again so you can give your new page the URL of /4710. Even though it’s in your trash, WordPress still sees its permalink and adds that -2 on the end when you’re creating your new page.

Thanks for the quick reply Lauren.

    Two things:

    1. Apologies for not mentioning that we had also emptied trash
    2. We also looked for any Drafts or Pending posts and found that none of those were carrying the 4710 slug either

So, thanks again Lauren, glad to have you on our #WTH team.

    Cheers again, from Southwest Ohio,

    Michael

Aha! I think I know why it’s doing that. I bet you have a page/post/something with the ID of 4710. I wish I could give a thorough explanation as to why WordPress wouldn’t like a slug that matches an ID. But I did just recreate the issue on my end. I created a new page and gave it the slug of an ID I knew already existed and it appended the -2 to the end.

    I hope that helps.

    F’awesome Reply Lauren.

I now have added a plugin that reveals ID numbers in any of nearly 11 items with IDs

I’ve begun that search-quest for the errant ID and will let you know.

    Thanks for being around Lauren.

I hope to be able to return the favor someday

    Cheers from 12 West,

    Michael
