• Hi!

Is there a way to have text on a WordPress page that anyone can edit?

I mean, edit without logging in or anything. Just go to that page and type in text that then appears onscreen (and stays there).

Sounds a bit mad, but the reason is as follows: I’m collaborating with 3 other people on a website. I’m doing the technical stuff, they just need to provide the text for each page on the website. But they’re not internet savvy, so logging in to WP and going to the right place to edit text won’t be possible for them (well, of course it’s possible, but they won’t be willing!)

  • Editing a page without login is not possible, but if you are using a good theme, there should be an edit button or link on the page.
So once logged in, they can just go to that page, click the link and it will take them directly to the edit screen.

In addition to this, if you try to edit a page and someone is already editing it, you will get a warning. Another good reason to login to make edits.

Logging into the dashboard, going to pages , selected the correct page and entering the content is not all that confusing. WordPress was designed to be user friendly, and many people have no issues figuring out how to add content to pages and posts.

Things get a bit convoluted when users try to further customize their site through plugins, changing navigation items, adding images etc.

I would walk them through adding content to a page, and if need be write out a step by step tutorial. It’s at max 5-6 steps.

@christine: you said: “but if you are using a good theme, there should be an edit button or link on the page.

I don’t understand what you mean! Do you mean they should log in to the WP-Admin? For people with very little knowledge of the web, that doesn’t seem like a good idea!

Is there a way to let people edit, without having access to all the nuts and bolts of WP-Admin? I mean edit pages as well as posts.

You can make it easier to your users to post or edit text.

There is plugins to let them login with their social accounts, and then you could use a plugin for frontend editing.

But without any login is not possible, and I think you will regret at completely open blog. Remember there are evil persons out there.

Once logged in, you will see an edit page in the wp-admin bar and usually there’s an edit button near the content on most themes.

But yes you are right, your staff or team will need to go to wp-admin, login and then they will be able to edit the content.

I would set their roles as editors only, so that they can’t install plugins, etc.

I would also add a login link to the site, maybe on the footer, so that they can just go to the site, click the link, login and then they are all set.

I think that all you need is to spend a few minutes with them and they will be ok.
