I can’t edit my pages, nor will can I make any updates. In the edit page I view the actual site page and not the layout where you make the edit then say done then update. Let me know if this explanation works.

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Nineteen theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Oh yeah! This may be a plugin or theme conflict WITH GUTENBERG. Guterbeg is a disaster!!! Why don’t you guys listen to the users instead of suggesting a useless solution (I’m so sorry because I’m very angry about that!)?

@rescuedog: I would like to suggest you try this plugin to replace Guterbeg:

This could indeed be a conflict with the new editor, but compatibility is ultimately up to the theme and plugin developers themselves. The WordPress developers have no way of testing everything against the currently 55,216 plugins and 6,731 themes available (and those are just the free ones).

This is why we instead have lengthy public beta periods during which we implore each plugin and theme developers to test their product against the upcoming WordPress release. This particular beta period lasted 8 weeks.

So, we’d love to address whichever the problem is, but first we’ll need to rule out plugin and theme function conflicts using the steps posted earlier.

    Dear Huff,

As you are a Moderator, I bet you acknowledge all of the problems related to creating/editing posts after updating to WordPress 5.0 in this forum. And of course, you also acknowledge how users fixed them.

Please don’t pretend there’s not a big-ass elephant in the room. The new editor is utterly terrible! Please turn back it to a normal plugin, an optional, not a default.

    Thank you!

I do, but there are really no more than the usual post-major-update-specific threads. I’ve been doing this for 14 years, I know what I’m looking at.

And of course, you also acknowledge how users fixed them.

Absolutely, we have a few listed here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/read-this-first-wordpress-5-0-master-list/

Beyond those, we start with basic troubleshooting so that we can actually isolate the problem, reproduce it, and either fix it or direct to he offending plugin or theme’s support (or suggest an alternative). Without that, the best we could say is “works for me” (which it does).

Please turn back it to a normal plugin, an optional, not a default.

That ship has sailed, a lot of time and energy went into the new editor over the past 2 years, and we’re taking isolated issues like this as a chance to make it better, not roll it back.

For the best explanation of why the new editor exists, how it came to be, and what its future is, sit back and watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWlfp-1Q19I

Now with that out of the way, I’d appreciate it if you left the thread to rescuedog, myself, and anyone else willing to help them. That’s why we’re here.
