Page elements using other plugins not working

Hi,
I want to display recent posts in one column on my home page, and have tried various simple plugins to achieve this (Widgetize Pages and Easy Recent Posts – both plugins I’ve used easily on other sites).
I can get the plugin to work when using the default page layout, but they won’t work with columns in the page builder.
How can I fix this?
