Page load slows to a crawl

Hello, I’d like to use this plugin on a client’s site, but page load times go way up when this plugin is active, and it seems to conflict with some cufon font replacement scripts a previous developer used on this site.

Any idea what I can do to resolve the conflicts and perhaps get this plugin working with caching?
