Page not found

  • Hi!

    When I want to preview a blogpost I get the following error:

    “Error 404 – Not Found
    Sorry, the page that you are looking for does not exist.”

    What may be wrong? If I publish the post it works fine…

    sometimes 404 errors can be solved by refreshing the permalinks:
    go to Settings->Permalinks and hit save.
    Hope this solves your problem.

    Nope, it doesn’t help ??

    Note that it is only the preview that fails. A published post won’t generate this error.

    Try to disable the plugins one by one and check if this solves the problem. If this does not solve it, switch your theme to one of default WordPress themes and check again.

    WTF… Now I get a message that I don’t have permission to preview the page (I haven’t actually changed anything). What’s going on?

    It is difficult for me to help you because I have very little information. Could it be some problem related to file permissions ? This is the document for file permissions: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_File_Permissions.
    If they are not set like stated here you shoud fix them yourself or ask your hosting provider if you are on a shared hosting.

    I just realised that it might have something to do with multisite (which I have and which I forgot to mention in the first place). It’s strange though, because previewing pages has worked before without issues in this environment… Are you familiar with multisite?

    Some new fuel to the fire… I just realised that this error only occurs on present pages/posts that are edited. If I create a complete new one the preview works without issues. Does that give you any clues?
