But the page is not found.

Also, this plugin says it was updated 6 months ago, but the source code you reference hasn’t been updated for years.

I’m a little hesitant to use this plugin for security reasons if it’s not being maintained.

Hi James! ?? Apologies for not seeing this sooner.

Thanks for reaching out. At this time, we are managing this plugin in-kind through our local health department and with volunteers. We typically release 1-2 updates per year here in the WordPress repo. There is quite a bit of “community organization” that is needed at this point, but the code has recently passed all standard WP checks again (as of the beginning of this year). After some changes in the development process, we put up a temporary site with information about the project, and intend on releasing a new, more comprehensive portal this fall (+ updating the plugin narratives and GH repos). Staffing has been a major issue for our LHD (and many LHDs) since COVID, but this is still very much an actively developed and utilized plug-in. Our hope is to revitalize this project later this year, and create a free “marketplace” for communities to share their custom integrations and modules as well.

As always, we continue to recommend separation of concerns for new installations (i.e.; hosting on an independent server from the primary WP installation), especially for local governments and agencies because the majority of the inputs in this plugin are public-facing. This is especially true for communities utilizing multiple BP-based plugins, since there can be conflicts or unforeseen integrations (such as the BP Documents plugin looping issues with the transition to Gutenberg) or occasional Yoast issues with BP in general. The majority of the communities we work with choose a generic domain (myxyzcommunity.etc…) or a sub-domain (community.mycounty.etc…) to host their installations on a separate server at HostGator, GoDaddy, etc… off premises for security purposes.

Our focus with this project is primarily on feature development in alignment with national accreditation / reaccreditation requirements and public health standards. Not all LHDs or other organizations (hospitals, non-profits, local governments, etc…) are using the boilerplate version, and some do develop custom solutions utilizing the source. We’re also working on compiling code-based documentation on how we organize BP modules to expand functionality. We’ve recently compressed the plugin structure (in the last 2-3 years) to make it easier for everyone to build and extend the base, and have seen at least three different community-generated modules in the last few years.

We’re always open to feedback, and appreciate any questions you may have.

Thanks, and have a great day!
