• Hello,
I successfully installed WordPress on my Windows 8.1 Pro local machine and I did not have any problems until I logged out and connected my laptop to my wireless internet at home. Whenever I try to log in to WordPress I receive “page not found”.

    My website: https://localhost:57249/wp-login.php

Again, WordPress is installed on my local machine. I do not have a web host.

    Thank You

  • You cannot use localhost as part of your site url if you want to be able to access the site from other computers in your local network. Every computer defines itself as localhost. You need to use an internal domain name.

    Hi esmi,

Thanks for the quick response. I don’t want to put the site on the web, I just want to play around with the software to learn WordPress. I have WordPress installed on my server and and I have no problems. I was wondering if there is anyway to use the software locally.

    Thank You

I don’t want to put the site on the web,

I didn’t say that you did. Even in an internal network, you will need an internal domain name.

How can I get an internal domain? When I installed WordPress I was given https://localhost:57249/wp-login.php as my site.

When you installed WordPress, you defined the site url. You should have used an internal IP address such as https://192.168.0.2:57249

I’m not sure how to post a screenshot image here but here is a copy/paste version of what I see on my screen when I install WordPress.

The web address WP generates EX: https://localhost:57249/wp-login.php

**I am not sure where I have the option to use an Internal Domain. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

You can use your IP to share the website in your internal network or even you can edit the hosts file so if someone type an address like https://www.local.com it redirects to your computer, that way it would be like using an internal domain because just the people in your network it is going to see the site.
