Page not found – HELP

  • We have a page for our parent association. website is https://www.fhsparents.org and for some reason we hare having problems with our password protected page to access the student directory (MS Word document) – It keeps crashing. I have done everything I can think of, uploaded again and again and even changed the permalinks but get the same error:

    Not Found

    The requested URL /fhs-student-directory/2013_2014-fhs-student-directory was not found on this server.

    I am a novice and cannot find the answer anywhere.

    Can someone please help me?

  • Where are you uploading it to? And remember browsers can’t render Word docs, so it’s usually better to save it as a pdf.

    Thank you so much for responding…. I apologize – I did upload as a PDF file. It is a page on our website and I uploaded it as a media file. The page is protected before you get to the another page to click the link for the actual file (again I am a novice and this was the default). When it stops working, I repost it, it works for maybe a day or two then it gives the Not Found error. I changed the permalinks and it takes down the entire page. ??? I can’t figure out what I have done wrong.

    You can’t show that page publicly so tell you what, upload another empty test pdf in the same way and post the url of that page here. It’s hard to diagnose without seeing the page.

    Adding page to figure out why directory keeps crashing.Testing website page?.

    The requested URL /fhs-student-directory/2013_2014-fhs-student-directory was not found on this server.

    The “test” link is good and works.
    The error message tells you the real link in use is:
    /fhs-student-directory/2013_2014-fhs-student-directory.pdf
    If uploaded to the media gallery it should be like:
    /wp-content/uploads/2014/01/2013_2014-fhs-student-directory.pdf
    Are you sure the link entered is correct?

    I will try that. I will let you know if that works tomorrow because usually if I post tonight, by tomorrow of Monday I will get the error. I thank you from the bottom of my heart because I believe that is the answer. The way I uploaded the file to the website! Wonderful!!!!!!

    Unfortunately, it didn’t work, it is down again:

    Do you have FTP access? Can you see the file in your Media Library?

    The file is in the Media Library. I am a novice so not sure about FTP access. ??
