• Hi all,

Every time I try to change the page slug from “about-2” to “about”, wordpress automatically makes it “about-2”. The thing is, there’s no existing page with “about” as its slug! Has anyone had this problem before? What should I do?

The site in question is *removed per request*

    Thanks in advance!

  • Go into the Trash and delete any old pages called about.

This happens when an item in the trash is using the page/post slug of the item you’re attempting to create, remove the old page/post and the slug becomes available again..

    Hope that helps.. ??

Also, is there a way for me to edit my forum posts? I’d like to delete/make private the URL I posted above. Thanks again ??

I’ve removed the link for you.. ??

Posts can be edited within the first hour only.

    And you’re welcome.. ??

LMFAO you know i noticed this same thing happening to me and i was like.. oh lame.. and i just said when i actually start building my “final site” i would just deal with it, i never thought to figure it out for some reason, so i stumble upon this post.. and its as ridiculously simple as “empty the trash can” i know i saw the Trash, link on the top of the posts page. i never thought anything of it.. never clicked it… this is one of many reasons WP is better than the rest… the wonderfully help full moderators of www.ads-software.com, teaching us noobs how to empty the trash.. hey, where’s the any key? ??
thanks for kicking ass moderators, and regular members who help

It caught me out the first time round to.. ??

    Happy i could help … and it’s why i’m here.. ??

I am having the same problem! But I don’t have a “Trash” link at the top of the “Pages” page. There’s only “All | Published | Drafts.”

I am unable to rename webpresents.ca/about-2 to webpresents.ca/about. I have tried to change the slug, clicked OK, and also updated the page with the change… but it does not work. It always goes back to the about-2 name.

I have only one “About” page in the list of pages. And none of the other pages are using the webpresents.ca/about permalink.

Please help! I haven’t launched my site yet, and I would like to fix this before I do.

I had to go into the database via mysqladmin and hunt it down and change the slug, and change status to publish. Then it was visible in my posts page and I was able to delete it through WP functions.

Oh, dear. I try to stay away from mysqladmin.

But, thank you, probablepossible. I’ll take a peek and see if I can do as you suggest.
