    what theme are you using?

    The theme is Fotogram

    whilst I appreciate Emma having done the design etc etc it is a little underhanded to promote her website on the back of mine

    I understand your feeling of underhandedness, but a single credit link is permissible according to repository Theme Guidelines

    Footer credit links are optional but if used themes are required to include no more than one footer credit link.

    It is also required that removal be permissible. If there is not a removal option in the theme settings, you could edit the template file, but do so as part of a child theme so the link does not return during a theme update.
