Hi. I have looked everywhere and cannot find a solution. Basically when I first started my homepage was pointing to index.php viewing the Slideshow and I manually removed the PHP responsible for showing latest posts and replaced it with Static content, otherwise using Settings > Reading > Static page; removes the featured slider which I need. Now my problem is WordPress has chosen to randomly use page.php and this has restored the horrid posts and any static content I add here appears on EVERY PAGE and removing the PHP for posts stops other pages and posts from working, so how do I point the homepage at index.php in my theme directory and leave the rest alone (at page.php which for other pages/posts does not change). I have read the Template_Hierarchy document and I cannot understand it, so this is my last resort for rescue! Thanks.

  • What theme are you using? Where did you download it from?

    Boating from fthemes.com

I’m sorry but your chosen theme is not released under GPL. Non GPL products are not welcome in the WordPress community. Official WordPress policy states that all plugins and themes that are publicly released are required to adhere to https://www.ads-software.com/about/gpl/

I would also strongly recommend that you read this article and consider changing to a theme from a reputable source asap.

Does my problem apply to supported themes that are welcome in the community? I just want to point the front page at the index.php file in the theme directory, whatever that may be, or are you saying that my current theme is illegal?

Does my problem apply to supported themes that are welcome in the community?

Unlikely. Please see the article as the link I posted above. We do not support themes downloaded from anywhere other than www.ads-software.com and we certainly do not recommend using a theme from that particular supplier.

Okay, so do you think my problem is theme specific or do you think the problem could be a wordpress file or a database hump (that could perhaps be repaired now) because currently the front page is loading page.php instead of index.php that is the issue at the moment

It’s not specifically theme support I need more of a ‘loading’ help is that makes sense.

It’s a theme problem. Try and find another suitable theme from https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/

Okay thanks, would the theme be responsible for the random switch between index.php and page.php or could this be my modifications to those files?

I have just quickly changed theme to twenty ten in my admin panel and still I have the same issue what could be causing this annoying tragedy?

Have you checked your front page displays settings in Settings -> Reading?

    Thread Starter dsm1

    (@dsm1)

Yes, still default I have not touched these settings at all

What do you mean by “default”? What is your front page set to display?

Posts, but I have the index.php file set with my own static content

Can we see the site using the default 2012 theme with all other plugins deactivated?
