Page Template Order in Admin Write Page Screen

    Excuse me if this has already been answered. I’ve looked and searched and have been unable to find an answer.

    I have several custom page templates created for use with certain sections of my blog, each one offering specific design. In fact, there are over 40 page templates created.

    When writing a new page, I can go to the Page Template dropdown to choose the template to use for that page, but they seem to be in some sort of random order in the drop down itself.

    My question is this: is there any way I can make the page template drop down order on the admin write page alphabetical?

    Short of a built-in option, does anyone know of a plugin to make the above happen?

    I have been unable to find any other posts that refer to this problem but I dug deep and found this:

    this gives a solution to the template order in the admin section but requires a snippet of code to be inserted in the admin_functions.php file in the wp_admin folder near the page_template_dropdown function.

    Insert it, upload the page and you should see your templates in alphabetical order.
